Statutory accident insurance protects you automatically and free of contributions – but only at work, at school or university and on the direct ways there. The employer alone pays the contributions; benefits include medical treatment, injury benefit and an injury pension.
Private accident insurance is voluntary and closes the big gap: it applies worldwide, around the clock – including sports, household and leisure, where most accidents happen. Above all, it pays an agreed lump sum in the event of permanent disability. In short: statutory = work & school, private = everywhere and anytime. The two complement each other but do not replace each other. You'll find the complete overview with all benefits on our page Accident Insurance.
