FAQ and Downloads in Several Languages

Insurance terms are hard to read even in your first language. If German is not your native language, that quickly becomes a real risk: reporting deadlines get missed, exclusions are misunderstood, applications are filled in incompletely.

That is why we work multilingually – advising in German and English, and when selecting providers we deliberately check whether documents and customer service are available in a language you command confidently.

Advice and documents in your language

We advise in German and English. As for contract documents: several of the international providers we broker – including Foyer Global Health, Cigna, APRIL International and Hi.Germany by Hallesche – provide documents, applications and customer service in English and in some cases further languages.

One important note on the legal position: the German-language version of the policy wording is generally the legally binding one. Translations are reading aids. That is precisely why we go through the contentious points together before you apply, instead of leaving you alone with a translation.

Frequent questions at a glance

Detailed individual answers are available at frequently asked questions. The central points for Germans abroad and expats in Germany are answered directly below.

The most frequent questions

Which insurance do I need as a German abroad?

That depends heavily on the destination country, the length of stay and your status – student, freelancer, employee or retiree. In most cases international health insurance is the basis. Liability, accident and retirement solutions are sensible additions.

What is the difference between statutory and private health insurance abroad?

German statutory health insurance generally applies only within the EU or in countries with social security agreements – and there only at the local benefit level. For longer stays abroad, private international health insurance is usually required.

Can I keep my existing German policies?

Many policies lose their validity during a permanent stay abroad, for example household contents and private liability. We check for you which contracts remain sensible and which should be adjusted or newly arranged.

How does the consultation work?

Entirely online: you book an appointment for a video consultation, we clarify your personal situation, compare plans and work out a suitable solution. On request, communication also runs via WhatsApp.

What does the consultation cost?

The consultation is free for you. We are remunerated by the insurance companies as part of the brokerage.

What happens in a claim?

You can reach us at any time through the claim form on the website or by email. We also provide you with the emergency numbers of our insurance partners, which are available around the clock.

In which languages will I be advised?

We advise in German and English. Many of the international providers we broker also make contract documents and customer service available in English or several languages. The German version of the policy wording is generally the legally binding one.
